Imperial Cameo Egg Ashtray
Royalty, Aristocrats, American heiresses, exiled Russian Grand Dukes, Maharajas, Socialites and Financiers with newly made fortunes flocked to Fabergé in London to buy gifts for each other. The Imperial Russian Goldsmith’s London branch was the only one outside of Russia and its jewelled and enamelled contents were as popular there as they were in St. Petersburg or Moscow.
This splendid decorative piece is inspired by the Pink Cameo Egg, an Imperial Fabergé egg and one of a series of 54 jewelled Easter eggs made by Fabergé for the Russia Imperial Family.
It was an Easter 1914 gift for Tsarina Maria Feodorovna from her son Tsar Nicholas II, who had a standing order of two Easter eggs every year, one for his mother and one for his wife.
